Pick a time and pay securely in Rand by card. The amount is charged up front but held — it doesn't reach the tutor yet.
You meet your tutor online or in person. UpMark holds your payment until it's released to the tutor.
During the lesson the learner reads out the attendance code on their UpMark screen (on a parent's screen if the learner has no login), and the tutor enters it. The tutor is then paid when you confirm the lesson, or automatically 72 hours after it. With no code and no problem reported, the tutor is paid 7 days after the lesson. If a lesson didn't happen or went wrong, report it within 48 hours of the lesson — before confirming — and we hold the payment while an administrator reviews it.
Paying for a lesson you've already had? The payment is final — it isn't refunded. It can take a few working days to reach your tutor's bank account, longer over weekends and public holidays.
None. There's no monthly fee, no joining fee and no minimum. You pay per lesson at the tutor's rate and nothing else — book weekly before finals, then stop over the holidays if you like.

You pay when you book a lesson. UpMark holds the payment and releases it to the tutor after the lesson: when you confirm it, 72 hours after it if the attendance code was entered, or 7 days after it if nobody reports a problem. Something wrong? Report it within 48 hours and we hold the payment while we look.
Cancel more than 24 hours ahead and you're refunded in full. Between 12 and 24 hours, also full — we'll offer you a reschedule first. Under 12 hours we offer the reschedule first, and if you'd rather cancel, 60% comes back. Travel fees always return in full. Moving the lesson is itself free — but it doesn't reset your cancellation notice: if you reschedule and then cancel, the fee is based on whichever of your original or new lesson time gives less notice. If both are more than 12 hours away when you cancel, nothing changes for you.
No. The price you see is the price you pay. UpMark's platform fee comes out of the tutor's side of each lesson, not on top of your rate — so the R240 you see is the R240 you're charged.
South African debit and credit cards, processed securely through Paystack, in Rand only. You'll get a receipt for every lesson you pay for (and a notification when you're charged for a weekly lesson).
Set your own rate and hours. UpMark's fee starts at 15% and drops as you teach more — down to 11% at nine hours a week, and 9% with a five-star rating. Never more than 15%. You keep the rest of every lesson. Your share is released when the lesson is confirmed, or automatically 7 days after it if nobody confirms or reports a problem, then sent to your bank account.

Hours are averaged over the last four weeks, so your fee moves gradually rather than jumping around week to week.
A rating above 4.0★ takes up to 2 more points off, once you have taught 10 lessons — so a five-star tutor at nine hours a week pays 9%.
The fee on a lesson is fixed when it is booked. If your rate changes later, lessons already booked keep the fee they were quoted at.
