There are two ways a learner ends up on UpMark, and they work differently.
A parent signs the learner up. You create the account, add your child's details, and the account is yours. You book, you pay, you see everything, and you message tutors. Your child doesn't need a login.
A learner signs themselves up. They create their own account with their own email. If they're under 18, they can browse tutors and take the diagnostic, but they can't book anything until a parent or guardian confirms a link to their account.
The learner sends the invite, from Settings, to their parent's email address.
The parent gets an email with a confirmation link. They create an account with that same address — or sign in, if they already have one — and confirm.
Two things to know before sending:
They can see the learner's lessons and schedule, their marks and progress, attendance, and what's been spent. They can read the learner's conversations with tutors, including messages from before the link. They can book and pay for lessons, cancel or reschedule them, and confirm that a lesson was delivered.
They can't message tutors themselves, and they can't add or change marks. The learner keeps their own account, their own messages, and their own record.
We don't let anyone under 18 book and pay for tutoring on their own. A confirmed parent link is how we know a guardian is involved. It's the same for every learner under 18, and it's the only thing standing between them and booking — everything else on UpMark is open to them.
Either side can remove it from Settings, at any time, without asking the other.
If a learner under 18 removes their only confirmed link, they go back to not being able to book until a parent or guardian confirms a new one. Their lessons, marks and history are unaffected.
Email support@upmarktutoring.com and we'll sort it out.
